Supplemental Instruction (S.I.)

About S.I. :

-Starting in the Fall of 2016, I became a Supplemental Instruction Leader for Anatomy and Physiology II. This job required me to regularly attend A&P II classes and hold two sessions a week to help the students taking the class better understand the material. During a typical session of mine, I would begin by asking if there are any specific topics that were unclear in class. Then, I would go over each topic that was brought up and explain it using a variety of interactive study skills such as flow charts, diagrams and pictures, and practice test questions. At the end of the session, I would usually give the students studying tips to do on their own that helped me be successful in the class when I took it. After each session, I entered a session report in the Grades First Database that is used to track the progress of students as it relates to  their attendance at S.I. ans tutoring sessions.  Being an S.I Leader has been one of the most rewarding jobs that I have had. Not only did most of the material that I covered in my sessions reinforce the material being taight in my other classes making them easier to understand, but I was able to give back to students who were in the same position that I was in as an Anatomy student. Public speaking had always been something that I struggled with, but by holding multiple sessions on a weekly basis, I gained the confidence necessary to talk in front of crowds and be sure in the accuracy of what I was talking about. Overall, this leadership position allowed me to grow as an individual all while incorporating my love of Anatomy with my love of helping others.
